Bachelors in web design and development? I am interested in getting a degree in web design and/or development, but there are 3 different options that seem the same thing to me. The 3 are: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Web Development Bachelor of Science in Information Technology - Web Development Bachelor of Science in Web Design & Development What are the difference between these. To me it seems that the second one is a I.T. degree with emphasis on web development.
Considering a job in Web Design and Development or Graphic Design/Advertising? I've liked designing things but what would I need to go through to get a good job in one of these fields? I'm familiar with HTML and other web programming languages. I also believe I would do good with creating advertisements. How good is the pay in these fields and is there a large demand for either of these? I'd prefer the Web Design/Development.

How do I get started in web design or web development? Hi. I am looking for info to begin a second career as a web designer or web developer. I am currently in the entertainment industry but also have a degree in marketing. I have taken some intro c and c++ classes ages ago and did well. Where can I begin? What languages or software should I start learning to be current in the industry? What resources are there to help me learn the most current and widely used programming languages or software? Is this a field for which I really need to go back to college? And finally, what kind of entry level job titles are associated with this industry? Thank you for your help.
What web design / development software is the best? I have been told so many different versions of the " Best " Web design software. For a few years I was learning, practicing and using Microsoft Publisher. A Sales rep from one store told me I would need to use front page. Another store told me to use Adobe and last I was told to use Microsoft Visual Basic. And the prices of each of these are drastically different. Does anyone know which software is the best or let me know if there is an even better one than I listed above? Thank you for your time CE
How might I improve my web design/development site to get more clients? Hi, So, I've been spending $100 per day to get lots of visitors to my website and hoping that at least 1% of them would hire me for my services. That isn't happening. No one is contacting me either by phone, email or on the forms. The site is here: http://FutureWaveDesigns.com What does this site need? Is it easy to find the information you would want to see or expect to see? How can I make the site better? Ok, I appreciate all the advice on improving this site here: http://FutureWaveDesigns.com Someone mentioned this design here: http://www.jr-art.net/ I like that but isn't there a possible problem with a flash site not being search engine friendly? I was concerned about that and with accessibility. That's probably why I came up with a boring site. Plus my partner did this as a revision and he doesn't have more than xhtml/css skills. I can do much better. than this. I have this site here: http://WordSaladPoetryMagazine.com and I've included flash components and engaging content, using the flipping page that displays the poetry books. What about a link to allow the visitor to see the flash version of the site or to just see the html? A full Flash site? I also use Adobe Flex and there are great tools for creating a site entirely in Flex to run in the Flash player. What do you think? Bruce

How to get out of Web Design/Development? Hello, I am in need of some advice on how to change jobs/careers out of web site design and development. I have had various temp contract jobs over the past 2 yrs and I am tired of the job security. It seems to me that in 2007, with all this cheesy myspace, youtube, and user generated content, web design is a very broad term, and amateur designers with no background are using the web for crap, and on the other side their is too much software, languages to learn, and each back-end web project is various, to focus on 1 thing, just redudant content management and uploading through an interface. And alot of jobs now are 20hrs.prt time, web designer/SEO, or 20 freelance asp.net programming on some stupid intranet, not even worth being a full-time employee. In everyones opinion, is this type of work worth a day job, or just part, contract, remotely from home? Also, how can you transfer into another type of work , when all your skills are web-related? Need serious professional advice.

Looking for Online Web Design & Development (IT) Programs offering Bachelors and Masters? I am a professional working full-time, therefore a brick and mortar school is out of the question. I often work late hours and need to find a regionally accredited university offering a bachelors degree in web development and design. I would like to eventually obtain a master's degree in this particular area of IT, however, I have heard some not so good things about Kaplan University. I recently had a bad experience with an admissions advisor and would like to know if anyone knows of a brick and mortar school that has an online degree program in the above referenced areas of interest. I have been searching for months and thought Kaplan was my best choice but I would like to know if there are other options available before going further in debt. Please keep in mind that I already have a BA degree from MU in Missouri.

I want to work in web design NOT development? I went to uni and graduated with a computer science degree. In those three years, two were spent specialising in web design. My problem is that my first job out of uni was in development, based on a few of my skills. Now my second job is also in that area but I have always struggled with development- I cannot seem to get my head around programming. I love designing but don't even have a portfolio. I have now been moved to specialise in databases and SQL but that's not where I want to be. I would change but the salary offered will be so much less than what I'm on currently and wouldn't be able to cope with all of my personal responsibilities... What can I do? I don't want to be stuck here because I have no choice cos it makes me unhappy every day but can't move due to my inexperience etc... Any genuine suggestions will be very much appreciated. Addition: I live in UK

I have had various contract positions but nothing perm.It seems to me that people are figuring out that most of this web work is cake and the only thing left to make money is web applications. Im am trying to figure out if its worth it to go back to school and learn more back-end skills(sql, programming, etc. (but i dont want to be stuck writing stupid content management or blogs, with to me is just redundant, repurposing or for the intranet that can be done in 2 months, maintaining it is not worth even being there for 40hrs.Web related jobs in general are all over the place(i have seen postings for webmaster requiring HTML and another requiring JAVA(totally different)others want seo, high-end design, some coding /some design, Im in Florida, which I know might have something to do with it, and moving to a larger market (NYC/LA) could offer more. Should I study Graphic Design before Web Design and Development? I'm thinking of studying a course of an Associate's Degree (2 years) in Graphic Design. I believe that if I take this course it will help me learn how to be more creative designing on the computer and they will even teach us how to design a website. (sadly is just one class that will teach us how to design a website...) So my questions are: - Should I study Graphic Design before Web Design and Development? - Will this help with my creativity before entering a course of Web Design/Development? - Have you done this before (studying Graphic Design before Web Design/Dev? and was it worth it for you? - The course will start next January, 2008, for the FIRST TIME EVER. Is it a bad idea to join on a course that is going to start for the first time? Please help me and thanks! I do have knowledge in designing or at least able to draw by looking at something. My only problem might be that I was never thought how to draw using my imaginations and/or creativities when I was younger, but I've been starting practicing on my drawings and this time using my imaginations and my creativities. So far I've been drawing very cute faces for the first time using my imaginations. ^_^
