You were probably looking into a dedicated server; the prices on those suckers are sky high. GoDaddy is good for purchasing domains for cheap, they also have economy hosting which is the basic type of hosting if you want to choose GoDaddy as your provider; but don't look into dedicated servers, they can go up to as much as 300/mo.
Avoid at all costs purchasing a domain name someone else has purchased for profit. This is called scalping (similar to people purchasing football tickets to sell outside the ground on match day for a much higher price.)
