When I search for domain names, I want to be sure my search is not being monitored. What site should I use?

  1. hu? you mean you want to purchase one? then just enter the domain name into your browser as if it already existed. if it shows up then its taken if you get some error then you know you can still get it. if you are searching for some weird porn or something then I dunno what to tell you.
  2. monitored by what, the government or your computer? If you want to not be monitored by the government, well, thats too bad. They have full rights to monitor any search. If you don't want your computer to show what you searched for, just use google. (also, if you want, use a proxy server while searching. The government will know something was searched, but not who did it)
  3. Hmmm. And why don't you want your search to be monitored? Are you contemplating committing a crime? Are you a member of Al-Queda? Perhaps I'll send your information to the FBI...
  4. The folks who monitor searches then snap up the names usually monitor your via spyware installed on you system (wich will track you even if you are using a proxy site like annonomizer (sp?)). So make sure your computer is spyware-free first and foremost (try adaware...it's free). To be safe you can search on a large, reputable site like Yahoo! domains or GoDaddy.
  5. I get what you mean. You don't want any site to register your unique name by telling them what the name is when you search. Try this place, it's my best bet: http://www.internic.net/whois.html
  6. I think you're referring to 'Domain Sniffing'... There has been a lot of speculation about this lately. I use http://domains.searchen.com and I check names often. I have not had it happen to me there and I register lots of names.
