Where can I find the best free (or cheap) web-hosting with best search engine recognition?
I have had an MSN Groups site up for many years which has always shown up in the first page of Google when searching for subject and names related to the site. I transferred the site over to Multiply, but the search engines do NOT respond! Is there any free or very cheap hosting that has good search engine recognition? I realize content is key to this, but in my experience, the host also plays a major role.

- Whenever you move a site, it will not be recognised unless it has the same domain name. It takes time for the web crawlers to go through it and determine its' relative usefulness and interest. Only if it meets the crawler specification of such a site will it appear early. The actual hosting site does not have anything to do with it, it is the domain name.
- Your webhost plays very little in the rankings as long as they are not blacklisted. New sites will inevitably rank lower and take more time to get the same rankings as the old site(s) unless you properly redirect them (Use a 301 Redirect). Also consider getting some paid webhosting, the prices have come down to almost nothing these days and it makes life a lot easier.
- 1. Web host has nothing to do with your site ranking. 2. Free host is not worth it because all your hard work on getting your site to rank will be lost when you decide to move to some other host, either because it doesn't have all the options you might need later on or it simply goes out of the business. You don't have any control over it whatsoever. 3. A real domain name is a must (+ a real web hosting). All the work you invest in ranking your website will be tied to your domain name, so even if you decide to change your host later on, it won't influence your rankings. For more info about this check the Beginner's Guide to SEO http://www.seomoz.org/article/beginners-1-page For web hosting I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/ Powweb is on a 50% sale - $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them. Godaddy doesn't offer a free domain, but you can get one for $2.19 if you're buying hosting from them, plus they also have a 20% sale at the moment.
- http://www.goldpuma.com is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you ($4.75 /month). - HostGator is The best choice to start with …. http://besthostingcompanies.info/?p=14 Get First Month For Only 0.01 $ Hostgator is solid and you can have unlimted addon domains too Hostgator is about the best you can get with shared hosting Yeah.... For less than $10 per month, you can host as many domain name as you want. I use hostgator myself, because I like how much they give you to start with so you can grow before you need to upgrade, but there's plenty of room to upgrade as well. Good support, live chat if you want to ask them anything - even before you buy. My account was activated within 10 minutes and they replied to support tickets promptly. Hostgator offers different size plans so you can start small and upgrade as needed.
