Where is the best place to look for clients as a web desinger?

Im thinking about running a web design service and I need to know where to look for clients. I need a steady stream of prospects to get up and running so where do I look?

1. Start with businesses in your local area. Find out if they have a website, ask them if they want one or have thought of having one. Try local charities, community organisations, schools, clubs etc. You may need to do a few freebies just to start putting together a client portfolio. Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing tool there is. Make sure your own site is an example of your design skills. Maybe have a few tips and tricks or snippets of code that drive-by surfers can use in their sites. They might come back for more. And recommend you to their friends.
2. If you are any good, design and open a web site of your own. Successful designers should pick up work from their own sites.
