What to do after you buy your domain name?

I have a business and I got an e-mail from Yahoo saying that I could buy a domain name for 1.99. I would buy it but I have no idea what to do next. Right now I am just using Etsy but would love to branch out and get my own site. So what would I do after I purchase the domain name? What is the next step? Any tips would help! Thanks!

1. get your site made and made live by putting it on a server. some companys make and run sites for you. there is a variety of easy to use software that you can use to make your site or use html (which is the end result of the software packages)
