- WHY? Any High School grad can design web sites. Any Computer tech guy with a 2 year degree can also. Getting a Master's Degree in something most students are exposed to from Middle School & on seems like you haven't done enough research. I would think someone who's researching Master's Degree programs would know how to do such research without asking YA people. You would need to have a BA or BS degree first and take the graduate record exam to qualify for any Grad School first.
- Angel Primeau, you're clearly not knowledgeable about the web design industry if you believe any HS graduate can design websites and 2nd year computer tech. As a professional web designer, I cannot stress how much crap is out there with people like these HS graduates who have no clue what web standards are and how to write proper, semantic markup. Nor do they understand cross browser compatibility and how much work goes into making sure your website displays correct in all modern browsers and their respective versions. If hearing "IE6" doesn't make you cringe, then you really don't know what you're doing. Anyways, back to the original question, I don't believe you necessarily have to go to graduate school for a masters in web design (not sure if they even have a masters program for that). Web design is very different from web development. Web design primarily deals with all the front-end work, like the aesthetic design itself, the html/css, and javascript for usability. Web development, at least for me, means all the back-end database work, perl programming, etc. Though a lot of well versed web designers handle a lot of the back-end stuff as well so the two terms are used interchangeably. In my opinion, web design can be self taught. You can gain a lot of experience by reading tutorials online and participate in forums where you can ask questions related to your project. That would be the route I would take. If you're really set on getting a degree/certificate in web design, I believe only specific "art" schools offers web design as a program. One that comes off the top of my head is The Art Institutes. A simple google would reveal more.
