1. Yes you can find free hosting out there. Not often as much as 500MB, but they are out there. There is no such thing as a -free- domain name.

4. I really think free web hosting is a waste of time. You have to deal with ugly 3rd party banners and things like that all over your site. Kind of takes away the "your" in your site. The site is free to use and they also run really cool promotions and giveaways. They will pay for the first 3 months of your hosting no matter which one of their advertised hosts you decide to use!
