How is a company like go daddy able to sell domain names?
Do they have a contract with ICANN? Do they buy domain names and resell?

- They buy in volume and they work closely with ICANN, etc - so it is far cheaper for these meta-organizations to deal with them than it is to deal with individuals.
- All those companies are registrars. Simply means they all connect to one main system, check a domain name to see if its available and then they sell it to you.
