Are there any websites that can let you register a free domain name?

I mean the kind when you just register a domain name for free without any other offers. I don't want to have to sign-up for anything else that I have to pay for. What I mean by domain is the something like the following: www.example.com instead of www.something.com/example

1. freewebs has an ok one. you just have to say freewebs.com/(whatever u want) but other than that i dont know
2. Nope Domains cost $6.00 US per year. That is the fee that the registrar has to pay INternic for the name. Internic manages the international domain name database. Internic is run by ICANN which is the governing body. So you can't get a name for free. The best you can do is register it with someone like Godaddy which will cost you $*.99 per year for the name. GoDaddy has to then pay $6.00 per year to ICANN for the name. If there is an offer for a name for free, then there is some kind of catch.
